CHRISTEN CIVILETTO CAREY, ESQ. - Board Member And Executive Director
Christen Civiletto Carey is an attorney, author, and certified mediator and arbitrator. She brings a wealth of expertise and a variety of experiences to her multi-faceted career. In her years of private legal practice in national law firms, she specialized in general commercial litigation, with an emphasis on commercial arbitration matters. She has first-chair trial experience in all phases of litigation and arbitration matters, on both the state- and federal-court level.
Christen's first book, Full Disclosure: The New Lawyer's Must-Read Career Guide, was published by American Lawyer Media in 2001. Full Disclosure is a practical mentoring guide geared towards first- through fourth-year lawyers and those about to enter the practice of law. Christen recently co-authored The Practice Of Law School: Getting In And Making The Most Of Your Legal Education (ALM 2003), with Professor Kristen David Adams, Stetson School of Law.
Christen has been published in national print and online publications, including The National Law Journal, NYLawyer.com, and Law.com, and she has contributed to web sites for the legal community such as Vault.com. She continues to write about issues that law students and lawyers face in their daily professional lives.
Additionally, Christen lectures at law schools and other locations on topics related to a lawyer's professional development, subjects of particular interest to law students, and conflict resolution and avoidance.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of The University at Buffalo, Christen earned a joint bachelor's degree in Political Science and Communication. She earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence at Vanderbilt University Law School, where she was the Managing Associate Justice of the Moot Court Board.
